Gundog Breed. Eager, Bold And Loyal. "Welcome The Sporting Gun Dog"

Gundog Breed. A brief history of the Gun dog

Ever since their domestication, dogs have helped humans hunt, something that they continue to do today. Gundogs, which are also known as bird dogs, are canines that have been bred to assist in the hunt through a variety of different ways.

What might surprise you is the fact that gundogs can often be excellent family pets as well invaluable companions in the field.

The term gundog refers to a wide variety of breeds that all help human hunters take down their prey; typically, gundogs fall into one of two different categories. The first type of gundogs are called pointers or setters. Irish Setters and English Setters are two dog breeds included in this category.

Essentially, the setter will range ahead of the hunter and when the gundog detects game, it will crouch and point out the game to the hunter. The hunter will then flush the game himself. The second type of gundog is called a flushing dog and these dogs stay closer to their masters.

They never go further than the gun's range and when they find game, they will flush it up into the air. When the target has been shot, the dog is given a signal to retrieve the fallen prey. Golden retrievers and cocker spaniels are two dog breeds that fall into this category.

The history of gundogs goes back nearly to the time that they were domesticated.

It seems that it did not take very long before dog breeds started to develop based on what use they were. Terriers, for example, were bred to fight and kill animals that lived in small holes and tight tunnels, while hounds were meant to chase and corner larger game.

Gundogs started being developed when men started using ranged weapons, but with the advent of the gun as a hunting weapon, they were quickly refined and specialize for this type of hunt.

Gun dogs are bred for their energy, their endurance, and their discipline.

Gundogs, despite their ability for an active, long-spanning working life, often make excellent family pets. Retrievers are known to be an extremely trustworthy breed around children, as are Irish Setters. Cocker spaniels and fox terriers are excellent for families with older children, as these breeds are somewhat excitable and incline to nip when started.

As with any dog, make sure that your children are comfortable with and know how to handle them. While gundogs in general do make good companions, remember that you should always look at the dog breeds involved and see which breed will suit your living situation the best.

If you decide to get a gundog as a family pet, remember that these are typically very active breeds. While they don't require an excessive amount of exercise, you should definitely be ready to make a commitment to their health and energy.

Many gundogs are also intensely social and will suffer more from social neglect than they will from lack of exercise. These breeds are known to be destructive and difficult to handle if bored, so make sure that you are ready for the commitment that these breeds represent.

If you keep these factors in mind, you will be able to ensure that you have an excellent companion in a gundog!

10 Easy Steps to Prevent a Home Burglary

1/ Make sure there are no shrubs or trees blocking the view of windows and doors.

When shrubs and trees block the view of windows and doors it gives a burglar a place to hide while they are trying to break into your home. Nobody passing by will be able to see them as they are attempting to break in.

2/ Install motion sensor lighting around the perimeter of your home.

Exterior lighting is one of the best defenses against a home break in at night. The burglar does not want to be seen. Very often if a motion activated light comes on the burgalar will leave the area immediately.

3/ Make sure all door and window locks actually lock.

We have all had the situation where the window lock or door lock simply was not working and we think, “Oh, I’ll get around to replacing that soon.” Well, believe me, the burglar will find it and use that means to enter your house. Fix all locks today.

4/ When leaving your home during the day leave the TV or radio on.

A burglar will usually try to avoid an occupied home. They normally do not want a confrontation. If they approach your home and hear a TV or radio they will logically assume someone is home and just walk away.

5/ When leaving your home at night leave at least one light on and the radio or TV on.

Unless the burglar is looking to commit a home invasion he will avoid your home when it looks like someone is inside. Always give the impression that your home is occupied.

6. Put a sticker that says “These premises protected by XYZ Alarm company” on windows and doors.

You can buy these stickers for a very low price. They are like decals. Even if you do not have an alarms system the burglar will not take the chance that you do and he will move on to an easier target.

7/ Do not let delivered newspapers pile up in your driveway.

When a burglar sees newspapers accumulated in your driveway or on your lawn they know that no one is home and that your home is an easy target.

8/ Do not let your mail sit in the mailbox for more than one day.

See #7 above

9/ Get to know your neighbors and ask them to “keep an eye out”.

We all know that the more eyes we have watching our neighborhood the safer it is. If you are going away for the day don’t hesitate to let a neighbor know and ask them to just keep an eye out.

10/ Install simple door and window contact alarms that make a loud noise when activated.

These alarms are very easy to install, are inexpensive and can prevent your home from being burglarized. When a burglar activates one of these alarms and hears the noise it makes they will very often flee the area. They do not want to draw attention to their actions.

Learn Hikuta Solve Your Self Defense Problem

I’ve trained numerous martial arts and I’ve purchased many of the training materials from the top self-defense experts in the world and I’ve found all of them to be too complex and too hard to learn.
Furthermore, I wasn’t willing to spend my time in long term training to learn how to defend against just one person…
Especially, since all the police officers I interviewed said that most criminal attacks are committed by two or more.
Personally, I was tired of all the bowing and traditions that are included in martial arts classes. I wanted to learn self-defense that was both quick and powerful because of some incidences where I was attacked when I was younger.
On two occasions I was outnumbered and on one occasion I faced a person twice my size.
After these attacks I was determined never to be hurt again.
So when an extreme self-defense method was revealed to me, I was shocked to learn that not only could I overwhelm a large attacker; I could also overwhelm a Group of Attackers.
It was even more shocking when I experienced how easy it was to learn.
Within a very short time my speed and power doubled and I realized that this one-of-a-kind method could give anyone unequaled, self-defense skills.
After all, the man who taught me was overweight and a smoker who rarely exercised, yet he was still able to move with blinding speed.
By the way, although I wasn’t overweight, I certainly wasn’t muscle bound; yet I developed amazing self-defense skills using the simple method this man taught.
After I learned Hikuta I realized that it was so effective, and yet so easy to learn, that anyone would be able to learn it. At that point I knew I had to help others learn.
I know people are getting tired of being bullied by criminals and belligerent drunks, and that they really want to protect themselves without the long-term learning that’s usually required. Hikuta solves this problem.Watch Preview Now!

Cell Phone Stun Guns - Excellent Way to Keep A Women Safe.

Many people think personal safety is only a concern for women. While I will admit that it is more of a concern for women than for men, it should be a concern for everyone. Safety is a big concern today, as the world has become a much scarier place with more crimes, more muggings, more rapes, more of everything, really. It makes a lot of sense for people to be protected when they are out and about. Whether the person carries a knife, a whistle, a gun, the main objective is for them to have some means of self defense, rather than ever be another victim.
Of course, a knife is somewhat barbaric and these days there are many great alternatives to protect oneself, in fact the most effective that comes to mind is a stun gun. Whether it looks like a cell phone, a garage door opener, a pair of brass knuckles, or a baton; telescoping or otherwise, a stun device of some sort is an ideal way to have self protection in your pocket or purse. There are a couple of states and counties that do not permit these by law, but for the huge percentage of us in the US we are perfectly allowed and able to carry a stun gun.
Many people like the fact that they can quietly, comfortably, and discreetly carry a stun gun in their purse, pocket, or even on their belt clip just like a cell phone. While they will hopefully never have to use it, IF someone does attack them, they can simply pull the stun gun out, press the button, and touch it to the body of the assailant, sending him to the ground and in a state of confusion, disorientation, and inability to talk, stand, or walk for a few minutes...maybe fifteen to thirty minutes! You don't have to worry about getting shocked if the person happens to be touching you because the current of electricity will not travel back to you.
Stun guns are battery operated, don't cause long term harm to anyone, can be bought for less than a hundred bucks, and are ideal for an adult who feels comfortable owning and carrying one, and would not be afraid to use it! So, if you would like the peace of mind and the confidence that you would have from carrying a great stun gun in your pocket or purse, rather than drive all over town trying to find one of the few stores that happen to carry these little life-saving devices, you can order one online and have it conveniently delivered to your door.

Dead Mule Recoil Reducer

Hate recoil? Want to put off the day your flinch gets so bad that you're forced to use a release trigger? Want your young grandson to be able to shoot your old military rifles without pain? A small outfit in Sturgis, South Dakota, 100 Straight Products, has developed a wicked little gadget that works. Called the Dead Mule (because it can't kick), the 4 1/4-inch-long, 7/8-inch-diameter, seven-ounce cylinder fits inside the stock-bolt hole on most shotguns and the cleaning-kit cavity on military rifles.
The Dead Mule is a cylinder, allowing use of a screwdriver even while in. Or, with any firearms with enough width in the stock, you can drill a hole and toss it in under the buttplate. I got mine from Midway USA (800/243-3220), which offers them for around $50, depending on model.
I ordered one and tossed it into the top of the mag tube on my Excell Auto. It cut recoil by about 25 percent.
It's fully mechanical, basically a cylindrical weight sandwiched between two springs, so it works even when firing downhill at rabbits or the chukar that just flew over your head. I'm ordering more for my rifles and other shotguns. 100 Straight Products, 605/347-2232--Richard Venola

Hunt the Grizzled Bear

Working my way along a river, I glimpsed a patch of brown through the trees. Digging at something along the river's edge, there was a grizzly. Everything looked good. A seven-footer, he wasn't an old boar, but for a self-guided hunt and my first-ever grizzly I wasn't going to be too selective. Waiting just long enough to make sure everything was in order I gently squeezed the trigger on my 7 mm Remington Magnum. He collapsed on the spot! I'd like to say that was the end of the tale, but it just isn’t so. Much to my surprise, he stood up. A second round was needed to put him down for the count!

Grizzly bear. It's a name that provokes fear, anger, admiration or sympathy. The term fits with the image that grizzly lore presents us; humped back, razor sharp claws, bone crunching jaws, and rage. There are other more benign images as well - the solitary, silver ghost, ambling through alpine meadows with its lazy, pigeon-toed gait; the esteemed symbol of pristine wilderness, eulogized in newspaper articles that are unfortunately more often based on emotion than fact.
Regardless of how we perceive the grizzly, it is still one of the most sought-after game animals, a species that almost every big game hunter yearns to take.
But why? There's no denying the grizzly evokes an emotional response. Just consider the dread most of us feel at the prospect of coming face to face with one on its own turf. Most back country users, and yes, even most hunters take extra precautions to avoid a confrontation with the great bear. Then there are those of us who actively hunt or hope to someday hunt this amazing bear.

Grizzly Bear Facts
Grizzly bears are but one of several sub-species of brown bear. We often confuse the inland grizzly with the Alaskan brown bear or even the Kodiak subspecies which are strictly coastal bears. To simplify, brown bears inhabiting the interior of Alaska, British Columbia, Alberta, the Yukon, and Northwest Territories, as well as the lower 48 states are considered to be grizzlies. Once roaming even the vast prairie grasslands, grizzlies could be found across several states and provinces. Where suitable habitat remains, today grizzly bear still thrive in the more remote boreal forests, low arctic tundra, foothills and mountains of Alberta, British Columbia, Northwest Territories, Yukon and Alaska.
Over little more than a century, with intense encroachment and rapid habitat loss, not to mention over-hunting, grizzly bears have all but vanished in most of the lower 48 states. According to information posted by The Great Bear Foundation (www.greatbear.org), as many as 60,000 grizzlies inhabited the lower 48 states at one time. Today that number is estimated to be less than 1,200. The only states recognized to still have grizzly bears are Wyoming, Washington, Idaho, and Montana. Grizzly bears are thriving in British Columbia, but Alberta's biologists are presently researching to determine the status of grizzlies in that province. Where numbers were once thought to be as high as 6,000, most recent information suggests that that Alberta's grizzly population is stable at around 1,000 bears.
Aside from the Barren ground subspecies that dwells on the open low arctic tundra, grizzlies generally prefer remote wilderness areas comprised of river valleys, forests, and open meadows. Considered territorial, most grizzlies living in areas with good habitat have a home range of between 10 and 24 miles. In some instances, researchers have documented grizzlies roaming several hundred square miles.
Contrary to sensational lore, inland grizzlies are much smaller than their coastal relatives. On all fours, they rarely stand higher than four feet at the shoulder and on average measure six to seven feet from head to tail. Male grizzlies (boars) are generally about a third larger than females (sows). Yes, they do grow larger and many hunters strive to shoot trophy-sized bears (i.e., 8 - 9 foot plus), but these specimens are rare indeed. An average mature boar will usually weigh around 550 pounds and a mature sow will typically weigh around 350 pounds. Size will most often be determined by their diet. Distinguishing features of the grizzly are the shoulder hump, wide head, grizzled appearance (i.e., often darker legs and lighter brown with silver-tipped guard hairs), and longer curved claws (usually two to four inches in length).
Grizzly bears are omnivorous opportunistic feeders. While they most frequently dig for and feed on plants (e.g., grass, roots, berries) and insects, they also actively hunt small game (e.g., rabbits, squirrels) and big game (e.g., deer, elk, moose, sheep) or consume carrion if and when available.
With the exception of the annual rut which occurs in late May and June, grizzly bears are considered to be solitary animals. Most active early and late in the day, mid-day hours are often spent sleeping under the shady cover of the heavy forest canopy. Certainly grizzlies may be seen moving about throughout the day, but particularly during hot summer days, their heavy coat prompts them to look for cooler cover during daylight hours.
As grizzly bears prepare for the cold winter months, they dig a den, often on steep slopes. Again, contrary to common thought, grizzly bears aren't true hibernators. They actually go into a state of torpor, which means that their metabolism slows dramatically putting them into a sleep state. They do in fact awaken a few times during the cold winter months and will often exit their den to walk around for a short time, then return to sleep.
What to Look For and Where
Grizzly bears season are open the spring or fall depending on regulations and jurisdictions. As a rule, most are hunted in the spring. At this time of the year, bears are emerging from dens and looking for vegetation to feed on. In April, most mountain and foothills regions are still blanketed with snow. By May, the snow is beginning to melt at lower elevations. In turn, May can be the best month to hunt spring grizzlies. Bears that have left their dens may travel on the snow-covered mountain slopes, but most will migrate down into the lower reaches of their territory to look for easier forage. For this reason shorelines along rivers and streams are thought to be an ideal place to hunt early on.
Although grizzly bears may be hunted with hounds in British Columbia, for instance, spot and stalk hunting is the most common strategy employed.
Tracks, bear scat (excrement), diggings, and claw markings on trees are the tell-tale signs you want to look for. In the early spring you may discover tracks in the snow, but more than likely your best odds may be in the sand and mud along waterways. Remember, grizzly tracks have much deeper claw indentations than those made by black bears. If you're lucky enough to locate piles of fresh bear scat, then you're in the zone.

Early in the spring, grizzly bears will be searching for the first green grasses. In turn, south-facing slopes with grassy meadows are ideal places to begin glassing. Should you be fortunate enough to find a den, consider beginning your search there, scouring the nearby ridges, slopes, and valleys.
Grizzlies can have a large home range and each will roam differently. In some areas, particularly in the mountains, you may see the same family of bears on a routine basis, but this isn't always the case. Boars tend to travel more, especially as the breeding season commences. Sows with cubs will often be seen hanging out in the same area.
In the foothills and mountain regions a lot of time must be spent with your binoculars or spotting scope in hand. Carefully and meticulously scouring every detail, take extra care to analyze anything that looks like a brown or grayish blob. Remember, grizzly bears spend a lot of time digging up vegetation and scavenging for insects and other forage. If you're in good grizzly bear habitat, you should locate diggings, or piles of disturbed grass and moss turned over. These diggings are unmistakable.

Grizzly hunting in the boreal forest regions can be more difficult. It is often more of a chance encounter in the vast forest areas. In the same manner, open slopes along river valleys and cut-lines typically offer your highest odds for encountering a grizzly. Again, anywhere that the first green grasses are beginning to grow in the spring may be a good place to begin your search.
In the fall, grizzlies may be found just about anywhere food is plentiful. River valleys and open green hillsides, mountain slopes, and meadows are still among the best places to look. Although baiting of grizzly bears is universally prohibited, if you're lucky enough to discover a fresh natural kill site, chances are if you wait long enough you'll see a bear nearby.
Hunting Opportunity
There's no point in beating around the bush. Mismanagement and habitat loss has brought us to where we are today. With no hunting opportunity whatsoever in the lower 48 states, grizzlies are considered a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act. What this means is that unless protective measures are taken, this great bear is on its way to extinction. If I may boldly speak for most hunters, none of us want to see grizzlies disappear. Yes, I am among the first to fight for my right to hunt them. I believe they are an amazing animal. At the same time, I would be the first to support hunting season closures if sound science suggests that the population can not sustain a hunter harvest.
With that said where hunting seasons still exist, grizzly bears are thriving. Animal rights activists preach otherwise, but the facts state that grizzly bears are thriving in northern and western Canada, and especially in Alaska. The number of bears killed by hunters pales in comparison to the threat imposed by habitat loss due to oil and gas development and other encroachments.
Now for the good news. Grizzly bears can still be sport hunted in British Columbia (B.C.), Northwest Territories, Yukon, and Alaska. Grizzly populations in these jurisdictions are thriving. With hundreds of thousands of square miles of inaccessible wilderness, many authorities have boldly suggested that there are more grizzly bears now than ever before in documented history.
Although some jurisdictions maintain concessions for second kinship relatives, each state, province, and territory requires that non-residents be accompanied by a professional licensed guide/outfitter.

A good week for self-defense

This week, many law-abiding citizens, including women and elderly, used firearms to defend their lives, families, and property. Austin Gun Rights Examiner

Today women are raped twice as often in the UK as America see why

The United Kingdom and Australia instituted gun bans in 1997. Between 1995 and 2006, women in the United Kingdom suffered a 76.5% increase in rape; by 2007 Australian women experienced a 29.9% increase. Meanwhile, rape decreased 19.1% in America.*

Today, women are raped twice as often in the UK as America, and Australian women are raped three times as often. This is damning evidence that gun control may place women at greater risk. American women are hearing this message, and more and more are arming themselves every day, not only to protect themselves and their families from harm, but to ensure our government doesn’t enact laws which disenfranchise women.

In support of this effort, the National Rifle Association developed the Women on Target (WOT) program to introduce women to shooting sports in a safe and fun manner. Yesterday, 61 women participated in WOT at the American Shooting Center in Houston, Texas, hosted by the Houston Daughters of Liberty.

A rifle in one hand, a laptop in the other. Behind the scene with pro-gun bloggers

While many old-school beat reporters stayed in New York or Washington this weekend to write about conventional political and social events, the pseudonymous “Sebastian” live-blogged GOP head Michael Steele’s fiery speech from the press box at the National Rifle Association convention in Phoenix.
With some 55,000 readers a month, Sebastian, an “IT guy” from Pennsylvania who writes the snowflakesinhell.com blog, is part of a contrarian gang of gun bloggers attending the 2nd Annual Second Amendment Blog Bash here.
But here’s the real news: In the press box, bloggers outnumbered national reporters by a good margin. And officially, nearly 50 bloggers — compared to 100 mainstream print journalists — were accredited by the NRA press office to attend the 138th annual convention. Full Article Here

> Cowboy Action Shooting Tips & Techniques : How to Load a Cap & Ball Black Powd

Shooting a traditional cap and ball, a blackpowder muzzleloading pistol is both an exciting and historical experience. The loading, however, must be done carefully, with close attention paid to safety. By following a few simple instructions, the pistol can be correctly loaded and safely fired. Always wear eye protection when loading or shooting any firearm.
Things You'll Need:
• Blackpowder pistol
• Blackpowder
• Percussion caps
• Powder measure
• Patches
• Lead ball
• Ramrod
1. Step 1
Check to see that the firearm is unloaded and in the half-cock position. Also, make sure that there is no percussion cap on the nipple. It's a good idea to mark the unloaded position by dropping the ramrod down the barrel and placing a scratch at the exposed exit point. This should also be done for the powder load and the patched ball positions. By using the ramrod, the shooter is always aware of the situation at the bottom of the barrel.
2. Step 2
Check that the lock and triggers are functioning properly. With use they can move out of adjustment. In both the half-cock and full-cock positions, make sure that the hammer will not fall by strongly pushing it forward. With a single trigger, in the full-cock position, the hammer should only fall when moderate pressure is applied to the trigger. With double-set triggers, in the half-cock position, it should not be possible to make the hammer fall by applying strong pressure to either the hammer or the front trigger. In the full-cock position, strong pressure on the hammer should not make it fall. Light pressure on the trigger will make it fall. When using a double set-trigger, the rear trigger is used to increase the sensitivity of the front trigger. The front trigger fires the weapon. Make sure the front trigger is set at an appropriate level of sensitivity to insure safe operation.
3. Step 3
Do a quick check for barrel obstructions. With the pistol unloaded and in the half-cock position with the barrel pointed in a safe direction, place an appropriate percussion cap on the nipple. Bring the pistol to full-cock. Fire the cap at a leaf or blade of grass. This clears the nipple and ignition channel of any excess oil or residue. If the object moves, the barrel is clear.
4. Step 4
Load the powder. Use only blackpowder or Pyrodex. See the instruction manual for the recommended load. Pour the appropriate amount of powder into a calibrated powder measure. With the pistol in a loading stand, pour the powder down the barrel and give the side of the barrel a sharp shake with the hand. This sets the powder. Place the ball on the center of a pre-lubricated patch and place them both on the muzzle. The patch is between the powder and the ball. Using the short end of a ball starter, set the patch and ball a short distance into the barrel. Now use the long end to set it further down. Use the ramrod to move it down onto the powder charge. Make sure the ball is set firmly on top of the powder.
5. Step 5
Fire the pistol. With the pistol pointed down range and in the half-cock position, place a percussion cap onto the nipple. The pistol is now charged and ready to fire. Place the pistol in the full-cock position, aim and fire.

Black Powder Guns 101

Gun powder also called black powder, is made of pyrotechnic composition which is an explosive combination of potassium nitrate, charcoal and sulfur that flames quickly and can produce a number of hot solids and gases that can be used as a propellant in fireworks as well as fire arms.

Black powder guns are guns that are loaded with black powder. Similarly looks like the common guns that you see today where you put a bullet in and shoot. It is the number one way to shoot something. When you see a black powder gun, Civil War era can come into your mind where you think of the buckskin clad hunters. Most hunters prefer to use this since it is more accurate for long distance shots compared to the traditional guns of today in fact they prefer this than the newer ones.

Today’s hunters are using black powders also known as muzzleloaders, because the majority of the states are implementing a muzzleloader gun-hunting season. In fact, over 200,000 permits were issued to muzzleloaders last year in many states. It’s also used for many years now. The name black powder was created in the late 19th century to make a distinction between the previous gunpowder formulations to the new smokeless powders and semi smokeless powders. During the 1890’s, black powder guns are referred to as gunpowder or plainly powder. It was only named black powder after the white powder was invented so that they can tell the difference between the two. Nowadays, black powder guns and muzzleloaders can be seen in many websites. It is very informative that it can even tell you what powder to use and how to make your own from a kit.

Smokeless powder may require precise loading of the charge to avoid damage due to overloading. Though such damage is still possible with black powder, loading can be performed by means of capacity than exact mass. Usually, high explosives are favored for shattering rock; however, since it has a low shattering effect, all the more that black powder can avoid breakage and thus resulting to more stones with good working condition as compared to some gunpowder. Consequently, the black powder was created to discharge stone marbles and granites which are normally used for monuments. Gun powders are usually used for fireworks. It is mixed with chemical compounds that can produce your desired color.

However, Black powder has fairly low energy density compared to modern smokeless powders and it can produce a thick smoke that can damage aiming or reveal a shooter's position. Black powder arms must be cleansed both inside and out to remove the residue. Its burn rate can be changed through corning. Through corning, it can compress the fine black powder meal into blocks with a fixed density. After that, the blocks are broken up into granules. Afterwards, the granules are sorted to size to give numerous black powder grades. Black powder uses sodium nitrates that can likely be hygroscopic not like the black powders where nitrate used is saltpeter. Since black powder can be stored unsealed and can remain feasible for centuries provided no liquid is ever introduced, muzzleloaders are known to fire after hanging on a wall for decades in a loaded state, provided they remain dry. Now, powder that normally use sodium nitrate that are intended for blasting should be sealed from moisture in the air to remain stable for a long time.

Gun powders have been classified as Group A or Primary Explosive substance by the UN Model Regulations on the Transportation of Dangerous Goods and National Transportation authorities. It is intended for shipment since it burst into flames so easily. Shipment of this item is under extra precaution since this can cause fire if not given extra care. Safety Measures are of top priority for Black Powder Guns.

KEL P-3AT 380ACP OD GREEN GRIP

The P-3AT is a semi-automatic, locked breech pistol. It has been developed from the highly successful P-32 pistol with negligible increase in weight and size. The slide stop has been eliminated and the magazine capacity reduced to 6 rounds due to the larger cartridge. Thanks to its locking dynamics and superior ergo design-- perceived recoil and practical accuracy are comparable to much larger guns. The P-3AT is mainly intended for plainclothes police officers as a secondary weapon, or for concealed carry by licensed citizens. The small grip size and light trigger pull make the P-3AT ideal for female shooters.

The Best Survival Gun for a Woman• By CL Hendricks

What is the best survival gun? As a woman, that is a question I’ve been asking of those who are more experience with both survival and guns. For myself I know I want something that is easy to handle, isn’t going to break my shoulder when I fire it and has affordable ammunition. Another criterion is that it has enough fire power to produce a kill shot.
After asking several people, plus weighing in my own experience, I’m come to the conclusion that there are actually several guns that every woman should have in a survival situation. However, if one is limited to only having one gun my choice is a .22 rifle.
Here’s what an acquaintance had to say about the .22: “Most bang for your buck is a 22 long rifle rimfire cartridge. There are many good 22 rifles for sale. I'd recommend a Ruger 10/22 semi-automatic carbine or rifle. You can't reload 22 rimfires so stock up a lifetime supply, they're cheap; $15/500 rounds or less on sale. A 22lr would be adequate for deer in a pinch, but certainly would not be my choice. For years the world record grizzly bear was taken by a young girl that crawled up on the bears back and shot it in the spine.”
From my own experience I know that a .22 will work for small game like squirrels and rabbits. I also know that my ex-husband brought down deer with just a .22 rifle using .22LR ammunition. He also took down an elk with one well-placed shot with the same rifle and ammo.
Since it is important that one feel comfortable with the gun one’s using, I believe the .22 will be the best choice for me. They are lighter weight. I’m already familiar with how they handle, having shot them in the past with a good degree of accuracy. Also as mentioned above, the ammunition is fairly cheap, especially when compared to other ammo.
Now, I just have to research the best make and model, although I already know that the one I want must NOT be a single shot. If I have to use it for self-defense from either four or two legged predators, I don’t want to have to stop and reload to get off a second shot. I definitely want a model that has some kind of magazine for loading with multiple bullets.
While I’ve been advised that stainless steel is better than blue, I know that if all I can get is blue that’s what I’ll get. I do think that a composite stock will be lighter weight than a wood stock.
Lastly, it is possible to purchase a good .22LR for under $200. Since that’s more my price range, that definitely makes it a good choice for me.
The same acquaintance mentioned earlier had this to add:
For self defense the #1 gun rule is: "Have a gun…any gun. If all you have is a 22 then use it.”
#2 rule is: “Use a gun of a small enough caliber that you can practice with it without fear of recoil or sound blast, therefore becoming good with it.”
Finally: “A .22 bullet in the eye socket beats a .44 in the wishbone every time.”
I’ve reached the conclusion that the best survival rifle for a woman, or at least this woman, is definitely a .22 rifle with a magazine and a composite stock. Now I just have to get it, and I plan on doing that before it gets even more difficult to purchase a gun.

Just How Important Gun Safety Is For Kids By Tom Husnik

There are thousands of websites on the subject of Gun Safety. If that doesn’t tell you just how important this subject is…nothing will! Police Departments all around the country, medical groups, gun safety organizations (including the NRA), and thousands of other agencies, organizations, and associations have all dedicated websites to this subject.
Articles appear discussing the 10 commandments of gun safety, 45 rules of gun safety, what kids should be taught about gun safety, what parents should know about gun safety, and millions of other helpful hints, tips, rules, commandments, etc.
But… there is one common theme that is present in every article referencing gun safety and that is this… if you have a gun in your home it should be stored in a gun safe or minivault, you should have a trigger lock for your gun, ammunition should be stored in a separate place, and you should keep the key in a safe place where no one can find it but you!
• How else do you account for the fact that over 35,000 kids bring a gun to school each year?
• How else do you account for the fact that there are almost as many deaths each year from gunshot wounds as by auto accidents?
• How else do you account for the fact that most teen suicides are caused by guns?
In a modern world where guns and gun violence can be seen virtually every minute of every day on TV, in the movies, and on video games, what message are we sending if we fail to educate and inform our children about gun safety?
When do we start? Experts tell us that when a child is first aware that guns exist is the time for the education process to begin. None of us would ever let our small kids play on a busy street. But many of us, especially those of us who have guns in our homes, wait until it is way too late to talk to our kids about gun safety. Is there anything more inquisitive than a child? Thinking back to when we were kids ourselves, what is one of the absolutely first things we did when we were left alone? We started to explore! Honestly now, didn’t you know where more things were in your house than your parents did? Weren’t they always asking you where something was? Well, not much has changed in the meantime!
If you have a gun stored in a dresser drawer…get a gun safe!
If you have a gun hidden under your bed…get a gun safe!
If you have a gun sitting on top of the closet shelf…get a gun safe!
I have spent the better part of my career as a Public Safety Director. The amount of times that my Police Department responded to calls for service where a gun was involved is staggering! I learned several very important lessons:
• Guns and alcohol do not mix.
• Guns and children do not mix.
• And finally…and most importantly…you do not get a second chance to do the right thing!
You have a chance to do the right thing today! If you don’t have one, get a gun safe or minivault. If a close friend, relative or neighbor you know has a gun, these also make excellent gifts and show that you care. An old axiom states that there are lies, damned lies, and statistics! Don’t let someone you love become a statistic. Secure your gun---Today! Gun Safe Or Minivault

National Park Service Carry

We'll see if the Obama Justice Department actually defends the law: Judge Blocks Bush Rule Allowing Concealed Weapons in National Parks.

More Women Buying & Carrying Weapons

An unprecedented number of women are taking their protection into their own hands by getting a gun. Gun stores are seeing more women customers than anyone can remember. Many women are also getting permits to carry a concealed weapon.

Local 12 Reporter Liz Bonis shows us why many women are in a hurry to arm themselves.

When Jenny Jeffery recently made the decision to get a license to conceal and carry a weapon she says it wasn't because she feels threatened right now, but rather:

Jenny Jeffery, Gun Owner: "What I saw, where society was going as a whole, and the need to step up and be proactive in my safety and that of my family."

Apparently, Jeffery is not alone. Homer Cole has owned Shooters Supply for nearly a decade. Read full story from WKRC-TV Cincinnati

Americans Buying Guns at Record Rate - Glenn Beck goes shooting - Obama gun bans, confiscations

I would buy guns like mad, but I already have plenty of them, and my ammo supply is also adequate. Although, I could use more food and survival equipment, I'll have to work on that.

With that said, I still can't help myself, so every time I get one of those stimulus checks from China, I use it to buy another gun. When I got my last check I went out and bought a Kel-Tek PLR-16. It's one of those pistol type AR-15s, its really cool, and could be very useful in the future if all Hell brakes loose. I also have a regular Colt AR-15, so don't worry about me.

Magnum Research Desert Eagle XIX 50AE, 6 Inch, Brushed Chrome, 7rds

The Desert Eagle is precision cast and machined to strict military standards from high quality steel. The barrel is locked in place, assuring a high degree of accuracy. The polygonal rifling reduces barrel wear and enhances the obturation between the bullet and the bore, thus increasing accuracy. When the last round in the magazine is fired, the slide remains in its maximum recoil position, permitting rapid change of magazine and immediate chambering of a round for instant resumption of firing. The 7/8" dovetail rib on the barrel has cross slots to accommodate scope rings.

FN Tactical Police Shotgun 12GA, 18 Inch, Ported, Fixed Choke, 8rds

Shotguns for law enforcement applications are being called upon to perform in ways unheard of a few years back. The variety of buckshot loads in use today requires something other than the old fashioned fixed chokes. And with the widespread use of body armor and tactical vests, stock lengths identical to sporting shotguns no longer makes sense.
FN Herstal recognized these trends and developed a pump action shotgun to address the specific needs of modern law enforcement.

Cimarron Firearms a Blast from the Past by: Chad Reimer

Cimarron firearms are literally a blast from the past. They provide the user with a great firearm for reenactments, cowboy-style shooting, or collectors looking for a piece of historic nostalgia. The best part of the Cimarron product line is the detail to historic accuracy, making the majority of parts at the Uberti factory in Italy, which is known for producing a wide range of Beretta old west style parts. While the parts come from high-quality European manufacturers, the Cimarron firearms are all assembled in the USA to ensure the same quality of the original designs.

Since their start in 1984, Cimarron guns have been a staple in the industry for those who want to own a piece of history without breaking the bank. Maintaining the level of accuracy is done by having a wide variety of 19th century Colt revolvers to compare and ensure that all firearms leaving production lines are built to these same painstaking standards. Unlike many other firearms companies reaching for the same niche market, Cimarron is one of the first official sponsors of cowboy action shooting sports and they even help to organize similar activities.

Besides a handful of revolvers, Cimarron side-by-side shotguns are among some of the most popular firearms in the Cimarron product line. They use the very effective century-old design that customers depend on. Many Cimarron firearms owners, such as myself, are not really cowboy action shooters, and instead rely on the Cimarron as a dependable shotgun for when in the woods or just hiking around rural America. The Cimarron side by side gives the user the ability to keep a slug and bird shot ready at a moment’s notice; keeping the predators at bay is what sold me.

Despite my personal feelings, I still believe the Cimarron lever action is also a must have; today, they are almost unmatched for reliability. They are operated by the user, unlike dirty gas systems or piston systems which add felt recoil. These rifles are the perfect example of the old adage, “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.” Cimarron not only makes the time-tested designs, but makes them fit the same specifications that made them so great in the first place.

No matter what type of shooter you are, Cimarron firearms have a place in the hearts and hands of most Americans. These firearms come with a flawless American Walnut grip and superb finishing to ensure that they will never disappoint even the most particular of collectors. So when you’re looking for a new firearm that has to be quality, or looking for the right gift for somebody special, the Cimarron firearms are sure to deliver the solid design that companies like Colt and Henry depended on to make their name. Throughout my years in the firearms industry, the Cimarron name is still the best for the money when looking for a piece of old west history. Don’t get caught with a cheap knockoff; when it has to be reliable, it has to be Cimarron.

New York: County attorney says proposed local ammo law is constitutional by John Haughey

The Albany County attorney has found that a proposed local law requiring gun shops to register sales of ammunition is constitutional and is not pre-empted by state statute.
Gun advocates have rallied against proposed Local Law A since it was introduced at a March 9 meeting of the Albany County Legislature. The measure was sent to the legislature's Law Committee for review, and Committee Chairman Bryan Clenahan asked County Attorney Craig Denning for a ruling on its constitutionality.
The law would require certain record-keeping by the shop owner. It would regulate the storage, possession and sale of ammunition and require dealers to record each ammo sale and the caliber, make and model of the firearm for which the ammo purchase was made.
The measure is still before the Law Committee and a public hearing is set for 7:15 p.m. May 26 at the County Legislature Chamber in the Albany County Courthouse.

The National Sporting Clays Association

Founded in March of 1989 and headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, the National Sporting Clays Association is a non-profit organization owned and operated by its members. With more than 17,000 members, NSCA is America's official premier sporting clays association. Membership is represented by an Executive Council which employs an Executive Director to manage NSCA affairs. An Advisory Council provides members with an additional source of input.

The NSCA is dedicated to the development of the sport at all levels of participation and vows to create an atmosphere of healthy competition and meaningful fellowship within its membership. Shooters who wish to compete can enter sporting clays tournaments and be competitive immediately. The NSCA also offers the hunter a recreational target shooting sport that will strengthen hunting and gun safety skills and extend "hunting" seasons.
The Beginning of Sporting Clays
Sporting Clays is the closest thing to actual field shooting of all shotgun sports. The sport dates back to England in the early 1900s when trap shooting used live pigeons. With the introduction of clay targets, the sport began to take on the popular form known today. But rather than using standardized distances, target angles and target sizes, sporting clays courses are designed to simulate the hunting of ducks, pheasants and even rabbits. Six different sizes of clay targets give the participant the experience of actual hunting conditions, so you can see why the sport is so popular with hunters.
Today
NSCA is the largest sporting clays association in the world. When you take up sporting clays and join, you are in for many years of enjoyment. Sporting clays shooters are some of the friendliest people you will ever meet...which we think is the best service NSCA provides. An NSCA family member is sure to find the fun, friendship, and a family of sporting clays shooters wherever their travels may lead.

Currently more than 600 NSCA clubs exist, with NSCA representation in all 50 states and 10 foreign countries. Annual membership is $40 for a Regular membership (includes Sporting Clays magazine) and $30 for an Associate membership which is available to the dependents of Regular members (does not include the magazine). You can join at any NSCA club or use the application form enclosed. We have a universal expiration date of December 31th of the current year. When a member joins NSCA after October 1, his/her membership is updated through December of the next year. We keep records of our members' scores in competition, register shoots for the clubs and associations, hold the National Championship each year, and provide a myriad of awards for outstanding achievements.

The Game of Skeet By Barry Greenberg

Squads of up to five people shoot from eight shooting stations arranged in a semi circle between two skeet houses. One is identified as the high house and the other as the low house. The high house targets start at approximately 10 feet above the ground with the low house targets at approximately a 3 foot height. The shooting sequence is as follows:

Stations I and 2: High house single: Low house single; High house/Low house pair
Stations 3, 4 and 5: High house single; Low house single.
Stations 6 and 7: High house single; Low house single; Low house/High house pair.
Station 8: High house single; Low house single.

The 25th shot, completing the round, is taken immediately after the first miss or with 24 consecutive targets broken as a second single target at low house 8.

Skeet may be shot with any gauge gun (of almost any type) as long as it is capable of firing two shells. Number 9 shot is used for virtually all gauges. http://www.mynssa.com/Whether you are a new gun owner or shooter or hunter in search of training, NRA's Education & Training Division is here to help you find a course to meet your needs.Take a look at a nice sport clay gun.

New Kahr PM4544

Taking the original design of its smallest model, the .45 ACP PM4543, Kahr Arms recently released the newest addition to the .45 ACP line: The all black PM4544. The all black PM4544 offers a new choice for buyers, and a new look to its hard-hitting, compact .45 ACP model.
The new all black PM4544 features a black polymer frame, just like its PM4543 match, but offers a matte blackened stainless slide to add to the overall “black-out” effect of the gun. The PM4544 matte stainless slide is blackened using an ultra hard and super thin coating. This coating has been used successfully in the knife industry to protect blades from corrosion and scratches. Not only does the blackened slide offer a new more aesthetically desirable looking gun, but it also provides a tougher coat and protection for your slide. This aids in keeping your Kahr looking just as good as it did the day you bought it, even after some wear and tear.
Just like its counterpart, the PM4544 has an overall length of 5.67,” height of 4.49,” and a 3.14” polygonal rifled barrel. The weight of the new all black .45 ACP is 17.3 oz without the magazine. The magazine capacity is 5+1 in a single stack configuration. The PM4544 also matches the PM4543 with drift adjustable, white bar-dot combat sights with optional tritium night sights available. The all black PM4544 has an MSRP of $903.00.

L.A. RANGES OFFER RESIDENTS FREE INTRO TO SAFETY AND SHOOTING

After taking their First Shots, many first-time shooters in the L.A. area borrowed a phrase from California's governor: "I'll be back." Back to the range that is. In an effort to help educate the Los Angeles-area public about gun ownership, shooting and firearm safety, the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) teamed up with three southern California shooting ranges recently to hold a number of free, filled-to-capacity First Shots seminars. More than 150 newcomers to shooting turned out at Angeles Shooting Range, Burro Canyon Shooting Park and Orange County Indoor Range to learn about gun safety and to give shooting a try. "We will definitely be having more of these classes," said Ron Cottriel, manager of Angeles Shooting Range. "We've already got a waiting list to fill one, and the calls are still coming in." The seminars were part of a broader effort in Los Angeles to raise awareness of the shooting sports and to promote firearms safety and responsibility. After successful campaigns in Chicago and Los Angeles, similar efforts are being planned for other major cities this year. http://www.firstshots.org/

Get Started in the Shooting Sports

Forty million Americans enjoy the shooting sports annually. But for newcomers the biggest challenge is not knowing how to get started. In fact, our research shows 48,000,000 men and women are interested in shooting and are simply waiting for an invitation.
Getting the right introduction can ensure a quality experience and a lifetime of enjoyment. For many participants this introduction comes from friends, family members and acquaintances. For others the first step is to find a shooting range that offers introductory courses and quality instruction.
To find a range near you visit www.wheretoshoot.org or stop at your local professional firearms retailer to get more information about places to shoot, safety courses and instruction.

Smith & Wesson Model 327 TRR8 .357 Revolver

Why? Well, despite what most people believe, the revolver is an excellent tactical weapon alternative to a semi-auto. Ammo capacity comes up often as the argument for semi-autos. But current revolvers hold 8 rounds, which is more than enough when you consider that the average rounds fired in an encounter is under 5 rounds. With moon-clips, reloads can be just as fast or faster than magazines (see Jerry Miculek).
Also, revolvers are also more reliable, period. They are simpler mechanisms, with fewer things to go wrong. They are safer, having a heavier double-action pull to keep finger clenching from battle tension from firing an unfortunate round. Sure, it is slower (if you are untrained), but that can be better too, making you aim each shot rather than spraying and praying. Being calm (relatively) and aiming is much more effective in a fight than just spanking the trigger.
Revolvers also allow you to carry a higher power round more comfortably than a semi-auto. When going up against body armor or opponents in cover, being able to employ a .41 or .44 magnum with hunting loads can give you a great advantage.

A few weeks ago, MSNBC “Countdown” host Keith Olbermann got exercised at Brit Hume’s crediting the Media Research Center for providing fodder for the “Political Grapevine” of his FNC show “Special Report.” He was quickly shown as a hypocrite for taking that very information from a left-wing blog.

On April 7, Olbermann was at it again, taking banter from left-wing blogs to attack individuals that promote and celebrate the 2nd Amendment during his "Worst Person in the World" segment.

AA-12 Automatic Shotgun

Meet the AA-12 (Auto Assault 12) automatic shotgun, a weapon that would be more at home in a first-person-shooter than in the real world. The 12 gauge gun will spit out 300 rounds per minute, and has a range of projectiles, including the Frag-12, which is more of a miniature missile than a bullet: it has a range of up to 175 meters (575 feet).

The AA-12 is designed for military use, and can survive below zero temperatures or a dunk in salt water thanks to its stainless steel construction. It uses a Tommy-Gun like cylinder to feed in the cartrides and is designed to operate with almost no recoil.

Gun Controlled

High court strikes down gun ban

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Thursday that a sweeping ban on handguns in the nation's capital violated the Second Amendment right to bear arms.

Ariel Sarousi, left, and Steve Bierfeld of Arlington, Virginia, celebrate the court's ruling Thursday.

The justices struck down the ban in a 5-4 decision, with Justice Antonin Scalia writing the opinion for the majority.
Washington Mayor Adrian Fenty said he was disappointed in the ruling but will give the district's police department 21 days to implement a process for registering handguns. It still will be illegal to carry handguns outside the home, and all pistols must be registered with police.
Officials said a hot line would be set up to handle questions about the new regulations. see full article here.

Mothers With Guns: Packing Too Much? By Kathy McManus

Moms pack many things—endless lunches, bottles, diapers, snacks, toys, wipes, overdue library books, and of course kids.
But does a responsible mom also pack a gun?
The question was recently raised on the website BabyCenter, which chronicles all things motherhood, from conception to inconceivably picky eaters and back-talking three year olds.
On the site, a mom blogger described the terrifying experience of a mother who was attacked at home in a safe neighborhood by a rapist with a gun. The woman fought, the attacker fled, and the blogger posed a question: “Do you think that every mother should own a gun?”
The point-blank debate about point-blank defense revealed that some moms are packing heat.
“I carry a Keltec 380 (small pistol) on my hip everyday,” revealed a mother of a one year old and a two year old. “I feel comfortable knowing that I will be able to defend my kids and I if we are in a life-threatening situation.”
Another mother—eight months pregnant and with a toddler—wrote that her husband works the night shift, and “our gun is the only way I could defend myself and my children should someone intend to do us harm.”
And there was this disclosure from a police officer mom: “I keep a loaded 9mm in my Coach diaper bag.”
Suddenly, it seems, mothers with guns are everywhere—movie star moms included. Recent news reports quote actress Angelina Jolie as saying she keeps a gun at home for security, and that “if anybody comes into my home and tries to hurt my kids, I’ve no problem shooting them.”

AK47 among arsenal seized in raids

AN AK-47 assault rifle, a high-calibre sniper rifle and machine guns are among a large cache of weapons uncovered by police in a sting operation culminating in a series of Sydney raids.
The Russian-designed Kalashnikov military rifle is the first recovered by New South Wales police.
Two men have been arrested after the year-long operation targeting the illegal supply of military-style firearms and other weapons, which culminated in raids yesterday and today.
Undercover officers bought a range of illegal guns, including the AK-47, over a series of months from a targeted supplier.
Also recovered were a .50 calibre heavy sniper rifle, a Colt AR-15 semi-automatic assault rifle, a WWII Austin Mark 1 machine gun and a number of sub-machine guns.
Detectives raided a home in Noble Street, Concord, today seizing 3600 rounds of 7.62 calibre ammunition.
A 62-year-old man was arrested at the residence and is being questioned at Burwood police station.
In a similar raid yesterday, in Powder Works Road, Elanora Heights, officers seized a large cache of weapons.
It included a 22 Magnum revolver, a 12-gauge shotgun, a .410 calibre shotgun and ammunition, two .22 calibre rifles, two Lee Enfield .303 bolt-action rifles, a M6 Scout dual calibre shotgun/rifle, a .270 calibre bolt-action rifle, a .45 calibre muzzle loading rifle, a 22-250 calibre bolt-action rifle and a Martini Action rifle.
Also in the haul were two air rifles, a crossbow, a metal-framed slingshot, ammunition and a silencer.
A 59-year-old man arrested at the property has been charged with multiple weapons offences including 23 counts of possessing unregistered firearms.
He was granted bail to appear before Manly Local Court on Thursday.
Firearms and Organised Crime Squad Commander Arthur Katsogiannis hailed the work of police in the operation.
"Gun crime is a blight upon our society and responsible for an array of crimes,'' Detective Superintendent Katsogiannis said.
"The seizure of these firearms will prevent them being used in the commission of any offence or in taking a human life.
"It will help make the streets of NSW safer for our community.''
The raids coincided with the State Government's gun amnesty, which runs until May 31, urging people to hand in illegal guns to local police stations.
